What You'll Need
- Valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport)
- Both applicants must appear in person
- Know your Social Security number (card not required)
- If previously married, know the date and how the marriage ended
Pro Tips from Our Planners
Apply Early
Apply for your license at least 2 weeks before your wedding date to avoid any last-minute stress, especially if you're getting married in Texas where a 72-hour waiting period applies.
Bring the Right ID
A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID is required in every state. Passports, driver's licenses, and state IDs all work. Make sure yours isn't expired!
Previous Marriages
If either of you has been married before, bring your divorce decree or death certificate. Some counties require the original document, not a copy.
Verify Your Officiant
